From snowy mountain peaks and cosy winter evenings to long summer days spent hiking and swimming in alpine lakes, every season in Vancouver feels a little different.
After spending time living in Vancouver and exploring British Columbia throughout the year, here’s what you can expect during each season.

Visiting Vancouver in Spring
Spring in Vancouver usually falls between March and May, when the rain slowly starts easing off and the cherry blossoms begin appearing around the city.
This time of year is a mix of seasons. The mountains are often still covered in snow, while lower elevation hiking trails and parks around the city start becoming greener again. It’s also one of the quieter times to visit before the busy summer season begins.
Spring is a really nice time to visit if you want a mix of city exploring, easier hikes, and fewer crowds.

- See the tulip fields at the Chilliwack Tulip Festival

Visiting Vancouver in Summer
Summer is easily one of the most popular times to visit Vancouver.
From June to September, the city comes alive with beaches, hiking trails, camping trips, patios, and evenings spent outside. The longer days and warmer weather also make summer one of the best times to explore the mountains around Vancouver once the alpine hiking trails become snow free again.
Summer is one of the best times to visit Vancouver if you enjoy hiking, road trips, and spending time outdoors.

Visiting Vancouver in Autumn
Autumn in Vancouver usually runs from late September through November.
The temperatures start cooling down, the hiking trails become quieter again, and the forests around Vancouver begin changing colour. Early autumn can still feel quite mild, especially in September, while November usually marks the start of colder and rainier weather.
Autumn is a really beautiful time to visit Vancouver if you enjoy moody weather, forest walks, quieter hiking trails, and cosy cafés around the city.
Personally, late September and early autumn was one of my favourite times to visit Vancouver. The hiking trails are all still open, the crowds start to thin out after summer, and it’s such a beautiful time for a road trip around British Columbia as the trees begin changing colour.

From December through February, Vancouver becomes one of the best places to experience both city life and winter activities at the same time. While it may not snow much in the city itself, the nearby mountains are usually covered in snow throughout winter.
